I love chili dogs as much as the next guy, but I really don’t like it when my chili dog falls apart while I eat it. The solution: make chili cheese dog boats instead. They’re like an evolved version of the regular chili dog.
How so? Chili cheese dog boats are still a bit messy (as they should be), but the chili won’t fall out of the sides as you try to eat it. Because the toppings belong in your mouth, not on the floor.
Best of all, it doesn’t really involve that much effort. They’re quite easy to make! Here’s how it’s done:
- 8 hot dog buns
- 1/4 cup of melted butter
- 2 cloves of minced garlic
- 2 tablespoons of fresh, finely chopped parsley
- 8 slices of cheddar cheese
- 15 oz. of chili con carne (we have a great recipe right here)
- 8 hot dogs
- Sour cream
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit or 180 degrees Celsius.
Place the buns on a baking pan (at least 9 x 13 inches in size to hold all 8), then cut a rectangle shape in the middle of each bun. Make sure you stay 1 centimeter from the edges.
