UMBC isn’t the only Cinderella story in this year’s NCAA; let’s not forget about the Loyola Ramblers.
Not your average 11th seed
The Loyola University Chicago men’s basketball team have been on an improbable run. The team started out as an 11th seed but proceeded to beat four opponents all ranked above them.
While they’ve become only the fourth #11 team to make the Final Four, we think it’s more a case of screwed-up seeding. Consider the following:
- The Ramblers went 31-5
- Won the Missouri Valley Conference championship
- Was 12th in the country in defensive rating
The team plays a modern type of offense that exploits how most college teams defend the-pick-and roll. In their most recent game, Loyola used an inside-out, pass heavy attack that Kansas State had difficulty defending.
See for yourself:
USA Today even thinks Loyola Chicago is good enough to win it all. Will they? We’re not sure yet – they’re facing really stacked opponents.
But rest assured, we’re tuning in this Saturday March 31 for the Ramblers’ game against Michigan. Tip-off starts at 8:49pm ET.
