The last time we played a handheld console by Chinese electronics maker GPD, we thought it was the best portable Windows gaming device. The GPD Win can:
- Play Windows games.
- Stream games via PlayStation Now.
- Run Windows 10 games and apps.
- Play PS4 games using Remote Play.
- Be used as a desktop PC.
GPD XD+ overview
It looks like GPD may surprise us again with the refresh of its Android-powered XD handheld game console. Named the GPD XD+, the new portable doubles its predecessor’s RAM, comes with a new processor, and sports a design that looks just like the original.
The new handheld uses a 64-bit MediaTek MTK8176 processor with 2 ARM Cortex-A72 CPU cores, 4 ARM Cortex-A53 CPU cores, and PowerVR GX6250 graphics. And instead of 2GB, it now has 4GB of RAM.
So why is there a refresh in the first place? The original’s RK3288 processor is no longer being manufactured by Rockchip. Sure, GPD can simply slap on a different processor in the XD without anyone noticing but instead, the company opted to increase the RAM to further improve the gaming experience.
