Halloween is just around the corner so you know what that means: it’s a good excuse to get hammered with a zombie cocktail or two. If you haven’t heard, the zombie is an alcoholic beverage made of fruit juices, liqueurs, and three different types of rum.
Like last week’s jungle juice, the zombie cocktail packs a nasty wallop, but its high sugar content somewhat conceals the alcohol taste. A sip might feel like nothing, but with the high alcohol content will have you plastered in no time.
History of the zombie cocktail
So why is the drink called “zombie”?
It was created in the 1930s by Donn Beach, a restauranteur in Hollywood. According to legend, Donn made the zombie to help a hung-over friend or customer get through a business meeting. The drinker later returned to say the drink turned him into a zombie during his entire trip.
Fun fact: Donn’s restaurants limit customers to just two zombies apiece. Yes, it’s that potent.
