So Disney has just unveiled the first trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story. As its name suggests, the film focuses on the adventures of Han Solo, one of the key Star Wars characters.
Han isn’t the franchise’s main protagonist but it’s great to see he’s getting his own film.
Just a couple of things:
1) Since 2015’s The Force Awakens, Solo is the fourth Star Wars film. It’s understandable that Disney wants to make the most out of its purchase of the franchise. However, film fatigue is a real thing.
2) Alden Ehrenreich plays as Han, but he looks and sounds nothing like the character. Disney should’ve hired Anthony Ingruber instead. He did an excellent job as a young Harrison Ford stand-in at The Age of Adaline.
Ingruber is no mere impersonator. He’s a terrific actor and Ford thinks he’s great.
Here’s a fun fact: LucasFilm was so concerned about Ehrenreich’s performance in Solo that they hired an acting coach for him. And despite this, Ehrenreich doesn’t evoke the iconic character in the trailer.
