The 2017 PGA Championship is happening this week from August 10 to 13. For the uninitiated, the PGA is one of the four major professional golf tournaments and is the golf season’s final major for the year.
This year, the PGA Championship will be held at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. A wide field of 156 golfers will tee it up and compete for the Wannamaker Trophy. Here are some of the favorites to win:
DJ is currently the World Number 1, but he’s missed some opportunities this summer. Nonetheless, he’s still a favorite. We’re just not sure if he’s a true contender to win in this week’s PGA Championship.
Sergio Garcia is a safe bet for the PGA Championship mainly because of his consistency. If he participates the 99th PGA, he will have gone an entire year without missing a cut, which is somewhat unusual of late.
This guy is amazing. He won three of the four majors following his victory at The Open at Royal Birkdale last month, so winning the PGA is a strong possibility. The main thing to consider for Jordan is that Quail is quite different from Birkdale.
Rickie Fowler beat McIlroy and D.A. Points in a 2012 playoff, then nearly won again in 2016. It’s just a matter of time before he breaks through in the PGA Championship.
The PGA Championship is where Rory McIlroy birthed his first professional win, and it’s where he’s been at his best as a professional golfer. It’s essentially his tournament to lose, so expect McIlroy to win the Wannamaker Trophy again.
