This year’s NBA Slam Dunk Contest is happening tomorrow at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. In honor of the event, here’s a compilation of all the astounding jams that garnered perfect scores in league history.
Here’s a controversial view: Michael Jordan may be the G.O.A.T. but we think his dunks no longer hold up. Make no mistake, his jams made us stand up in awe in 1987 and 88, but the crazy highlights from this past decade have truly spoiled us.
In contrast, Vince Carter’s jaw-dropping jams from 18 years ago still mesmerize.
Who do we see tomorrow?
But so much for history. The participants for the 2018 NBA Slam Dunk Contest are the following:
- Victor Oladipo (Pacers)
- Larry Nance Jr. (Cavaliers)
- Dennis Smith Jr. (Mavericks)
- Donovan Mitchell (Jazz)
What’s exciting about tomorrow’s contest is that two of the participants (Oladipo and Mitchell) average at least 19 points per game. This means they’re no mere dunkers; Oladipo and Mitchell are their teams’ respective go-to guys.
Granted, the two aren’t as high-profile as a LeBron James or Russell Westbrook, but we’ll take it. We just hope this year’s contest is as nail-biting as the best of them.
